Naranjo Protector

Naranjo Protector is a 2024 mural by Anyu Sun, located at Arlington Five in Ottawa's Centretown neighbourhood. The piece is named after Naranjo, Anyu's orange cat who lives in Argentina with her parents, left behind when she moved to Ottawa in 2020. Anyu described it as "kinda a protection spell made mural." The evil eye motif woven through the composition references a protective symbol carried across many cultures as a shield against malicious energy. Here it appears in the colours of the Palestinian flag, with intent to send protection to Palestinians in Ottawa and abroad. Read more about Anyu and her work in our artist spotlight.
