
Claudia Gutierrez and Kiana Meness have distilled a proverb of resilience into a visual anthem. Inspired by Dinos Christianopoulos’s words: “They tried to bury us, they didn’t know we were seeds”. This work serves as a vibrant intersection of Latin Canadian and Indigenous perspectives.
The mural features a central, earthenware vessel held by dark, silhouetted hands, grounding the piece in themes of ancestral care and the labor of growth. From the vessel, a sprawling, organic red form ascends like a floral spine, while deep roots pierce the dark blue earth below.
