This community mural is located on the exterior of a brick building and incorporates both painted sections and dimensional cutouts. The artwork was created under the City of Ottawa's Paint It Up program, a youth development initiative.
The lower portion of the mural features a blue background painted across the building's concrete foundation. This section displays a variety of local flowers, including sunflowers, daisies, and purple coneflowers, alongside an owl, a hummingbird, and bumblebees. Local youth painted these flowers under the guidance and mentorship of Ottawa artist Daniel Martelock.
On the tan brick facade above the garden, several birds and a bumblebee appear to fly. These black and white chickadees are not painted onto the brick wall. Instead, Martelock crafted these pieces as wood cutouts in his backyard and mounted them directly to the building, creating a layered effect above the youth-painted garden.
