From the plaque:
This monumental mural, right in the heart of downtown Gatineau, depicts a little boy wearing a cap and a little girl who could be his sister. These children are part of the Outaouais urban heritage, reflecting a certain period and culture. As a historical reminder, this mural resonates with a contemporary focus on childhood as the heritage of tomorrow and beyond.
As witnesses of their times, the children of a working-class family, whose father worked at E. B. Eddy, are surrounded by historical and contemporary symbols that serve as reminders of the great fires that decimated the city of Hull in the late 19t and early 20t century.
This original work was developed by Gatineau artist José Guénette, who called in two local artists, Phil Landry and Marin Mitrasonivic.
The gigantic 5,800 square foot mural will continue to attract residents, workers, tourists and passers-by for many years to come.
