Created over five days in September, this mural by Jimmy, Kal, and Alberto stands as a vibrant tribute to the local history of hip-hop. The work visually embodies the movement's five foundational pillars: breakdancing, MCing, rap, graffiti, and knowledge. Stylistically, the piece bridges the gap between the "classic" aesthetic of New York subway art and the distinct, modern innovations these artists have established across Ottawa. Beyond its visual impact, the mural is a testament to the deep roots of hip-hop culture, emphasizing themes of social justice, community joy, and collective support. The creation process itself served as a performance, where the artists actively engaged with the public to educate passersby and dismantle negative stereotypes. Ultimately, this imagery acts as a visual argument for the legitimacy of graffiti as an art form rather than an act of vandalism.
