Freedom to Roam

The mural stirs feelings of liberation in viewers through its depiction of birds taking flight from the close connection between two figures. Discovering this artwork on Bank Street offers a much-needed sense of hope and freedom after the long winter confinement. Laporte, an Ottawa muralist and illustrator, creates his work by blending traditional painting with mixed-media techniques. Metcalfe, a lifelong Ottawa resident, is a freelance artist, illustrator, and designer who established his own studio in 2010. He remains a key figure in the city's overall art community, and his other large-scale pieces can be seen throughout Ottawa.
