Why We Are Building This Archive

For months, our small volunteer team has been meticulously documenting public art across the National Capital Region. We are building the most comprehensive urban art index for Ottawa and Gatineau. Why? Because street art is vibrant but ephemeral. It can fade, be painted over, or simply be forgotten. OTTAWALLS exists to document and celebrate these pieces before they disappear, preserving the local art history created on our walls.

This project is driven by a non-commercial, volunteer mission. We are turning temporary works into an official resource to ensure artists receive proper credit and to help the city support more public art.

The Gains: Who Benefits?

OTTAWALLS is more than just a map. It is a living archive designed to empower everyone involved in the city's artistic landscape.

For the Artist:

  • We ensure artists receive proper credit for their work. Our platform provides a clear, high-ranking SEO record for their entire body of public art, boosting their professional profile and helping them secure future commissions.

For the Art Lover:

  • Our interactive map unlocks the entire city as an open-air gallery. You gain self-guided walking tours that are always accurate, allowing you to discover the story behind every piece.

For the Community:

  • We provide civic leaders and residents with definitive data on local art installations. This fosters greater collaboration and justifies the need for expanding street art in Ottawa as a vital component of neighborhood identity.

Join the Testing Crew

We are moving into our Public Beta phase and are inviting local art enthusiasts, community historians, and urban explorers to join our beta. Your input is the final piece we need to launch. This is your chance to actively shape how our city documents its visual history.

The core of OTTAWALLS is the interactive mural map and the associated index. We are asking you to test three essential areas:

  1. Map Accuracy: Are the pins in the right place? Do the walking guides flow correctly?
  2. Content Completeness: Spot a missing artist name, a misspelled title, or a mural we haven't documented yet? See a wall that deserves to be in the archive? Send it in.
  3. User Experience (UX): How easy is it to find the nearest mural? Does the site work well on your phone?

Participation is simple. Use the OTTAWALLS site and let us know what you think! Head over to our dedicated Beta Feedback Form and tell us what you find. Your input ensures that OTTAWALLS launches as the most accurate, reliable street art resource in the entire National Capital Region. This is your city too.
